I first came across Sarah Kay when I was watching TED Talks. My maths teacher (who was the best teacher I've ever had) told us to watch some Ted Talks on YouTube. My creative and writing-passionate mind stumbled across the beautiful and insightful Sarah Kay. I owe Sarah Kay where I am today, because without her, I wouldn't have discovered my love for spoken word, and I certainly would not be brave enough, or even know how to spill my emotions onto a piece of paper or into music notes.

If I should have a daughter

This poem was the first one I have watched her perform and it is purely a magical experience. We are all storytellers and just because some of us can rhyme, doesn't mean that we are better or have better stories. Everyone should write poetry. We all have that inside us. If I should have a daughter, I would teach her to express her emotions on paper, through music or art, because awareness is the only way forward to solving your issues, and ultimately living a happier, more fulfilling life.

Take a listen to Sarah Kay's story...

Most beautiful quote

''Life will hit you hard, in the face, wait for you to get back up so it can kick you in the stomach, but getting the wind knocked out of you is the only way to remind your lungs how much they like the taste of air''

So incredibly powerful, and we will all have our own interpretations of this. Sarah Kay teaches us that it's okay to fall down sometimes and be vulnerable, but we should always try to fight our battles, so that we can truly appreciate how difficult but beautiful life actually is.
