Suppressing your Evils

We all have a dark side
Do you ever catch yourself thinking the most brutal, cruel and disgusting things? Things ranging from humiliation to wishing death upon someone to get sympathy and attention from others? Probably. Do you catch yourself fantasising about murdering someone in your life, torturing them, then disposing of the body and feeling good about it? That's perfectly normal. Unless of course, you go ahead with it!
My dark side is everything revolving around death and torture, which explains my fascination with everything paranormal and disordered (UFOs, ghosts, serial killers, kidnappings, conspiracy theories, etc.) Other components of my darkness are some of the things listed below.
Your dark side may be different. It may revolve around jealousy, revenge, suicidality, control, loneliness, self-critique, addiction, anger issues, a melancholic or pessimistic view of the world.

Acceptance of both sides of yourself
Suppressing your bad thoughts is a no-no. That's what I learnt from therapy. The more you suppress it, the stronger and scarier those thoughts become. Don't hate on the little girl or boy inside you - they may be screaming and crying and throwing stuff across the room, but what he or she needs is a great big hug, saying ''it will be okay''.
Another thing I've learnt in therapy is that things are not always black and white. We are not simply evil or good. A lot of the world is grey - and we are not to judge it so harshly.

Are we all secretly evil?
Yes. But I think some of us like to pretend everything is roses and butterflies and hide it away. Sooner or later the monster from under the bed comes to haunt you because the more you hide it, the stronger and scarier is becomes. Monsters are to be given a big hug, so that they don't feel the guilt and shame for simply being who they are. Our evils are grey; they are us; we are not black and white; we are much more complex.
So next time your evils come out, give the monster a hug - the hug you deserve from yourself but may have never received before.

Always have your values
A wise friend of mine - someone who is very dear to me, has once said that ''we are nothing without our morals and values''. Let's think about that for a second. What separates us from a cold-blooded killer? They had a childhood, parents, went to school, socialised, so how come some of us end up on the wrong side of the bars? To say that murderers have no values is laughable. We all believe in something, unless of course we are very little and, through our big eyes and small hands, cannot comprehend the world yet.
The most common value is what makes us better human being than a serial killer. ''Do not purposely hurt another human being'' is what the majority of the civilised populous believes in. Simple yet, incredibly powerful. Without our values we are as good (or as bad)as a murderer.
Be as dark as your heart desires to be, as long as you are not hurting anyone (including yourself).
